The Knick is a television drama series on Cinemax directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Clive Owen. It looks at the professional and personal lives of Dr. John W. Thackery (played by Owen) and the staff at a fictionalized version of the Knickerbocker Hospital ("the Knick") in New York during the early part of the twentieth century. The series was created and written by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, who also function as producers and executive producers. Gregory Jacobs, Clive Owen, Steven Soderbergh, and Michael Sugar (Anonymous Content) are also executive producers. Steven Katz is the supervising producer, Michael Polaire is the producer and David Kirchner is the associate producer. The show premiered on Cinemax on August 8, 2014.

On July 10, 2014, Cinemax renewed The Knick for a ten-episode second season.[1]

In New York City in 1900, the Knickerbocker Hospital operates with innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who have to overcome limitations on then-current medical understanding and practice to prevent staggeringly high mortality rates. Dr. John Thackery (partially based on historical figure, William Stewart Halsted[2]), the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff, battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers. Dr. Algernon Edwards, a Harvard-educated, European-trained black surgeon (probably based on the historical Daniel Hale Williams),[3] must fight for respect within the all-white-populated hospital, as well as the racially-charged city. While literally struggling to keep the lights on, the hospital attempts to attract a wealthy clientele, without sacrificing quality care.

Cast:

Dr. John Thackery is an arrogant, self-absorbed, yet brilliant surgeon who burns the candle at both ends, but manages to shine in the surgical theatre.

Jacob Speight is a health department inspector who exploits the perks of his position, demanding a finder’s fee for every patient he brings to the Knick.

Cornelia Robertson not only serves as head of the hospital’s social welfare office, but also chairs the hospital’s board of trustees as proxy for her father, shipping tycoon Captain August Robertson (Grainger Hines).

Dr. Everett Gallinger is an aspiring surgeon on Thackery’s staff whose hopes of being named assistant chief surgeon are dashed when an outsider is appointed to the position.

Dr. Algernon Edwards is a gifted, Harvard-trained surgeon – the only black member of his graduating class – whose determination to be recognized for his abilities in the face of racial prejudice is coupled with his desire to learn everything he can from the openly dismissive Dr. Thackery.

Dr. Bertram “Bertie” Chickering, Jr. is an eager surgeon-in-training who comes to the Knick for the romance and excitement of learning from a groundbreaking surgeon.

Lucy Elkins is a naïve young nurse from West Virginia who has come to New York for adventure, and finds more than she ever imagined at the Knick.

Tom Cleary is the crude, jovial Irish ambulance driver who gets kickbacks for funneling rich patients to the Knick and takes great delight in harassing those who stand in his path.

Herman Barrow is an obsequious and deceptively greedy hospital administrator who robs Peter to pay Paul in order to keep the Knickerbocker, and himself, afloat.

Goeie serie inderdaad he. Heel erg vet.

http://www.jellinek.nl/vraag-antwoord/alcohol-drugs/cocaine/cocaine-behandeling/kun-je-van-cocaefne-onthoudingsverschijnselen-krijgen/

Is weer erg sterk.
